Everyone who goes into the sanatorium says the place is haunted beyond belief and that they wouldn’t want to be left alone in there for a long time. ![]() There are numerous reports of people hearing footsteps and strange sounds coming from empty rooms. One Minnesota paranormal investigator by the name of Eric Moen picked up a recording that said “watch us from hell’. Some have recorded some pretty eerie things while inside. There have been a lot of people who have done investigations in the sanatorium. Since the 80’s it has been abandoned and looks like something out of a Resident Evil movie. In recent years it was used as a chemical dependency treatment center which closed in 1985. It was initially closed in 1943 and was sold to a couple of owners throughout the decades. The only building left standing of the initial complex is the administration building. The sanatorium first opened in 1905 as a treatment center for tuberculosis patients. The Pokegama Sanatorium is located in Pine City, Minnesota, and is a monstrous location that could be turned into a bed and breakfast, or a spooky ghost hunting retreat. Don’t expect to walk into something beautiful, it’s run down and needs a ton of work. The sale price is going for $75,000 and sits on about ¾ of an acre. With the prices of homes, food, and just about everything else going through the roof, it’s news to hear that you can own a haunted sanatorium for this cheap. So the larger ruins was the "bottling plant?" I need to return and look for the pipe and the glass in the structure. As he described it, the cable ran parallel to Harris Station Road, on the east side, then crossed under the road and went up APH in the south east corner. The building I have a photo of appeared to be a pump house and not electrical. They all were connected together for sure. And if you know where to look near the large ruins and the well nearby you can see evidence of the same pipe leading to the well for that building. That went from the large well on the top of the building to the ruins mentioned. If you follow a path directly down the hill from there where the hill has been eroded by vehicles, you can see a damaged galvanized pipe. You can still find pieces of the ruins and if you look closely at them you can see odd old bottles embedded in the concrete.
